Who is behind the service
Paul Holt is a Manchester-based mathematician, author and technology builder. He operates the service as Paul Holt trading as M.T.D.O. — Making Tax Digital Online. The public service launched in August 2026.

Why M.T.D.O. exists
Generic accounting platforms rarely put landlord tax records, quarterly preparation and tenancy-law administration in the same place. M.T.D.O. is designed to reduce that fragmented administration: record rent and costs, review quarter totals, follow deadlines and keep tenancy evidence organised.
What it does today
- stores digital income and expense records against a signed-in account;
- groups records into quarterly preparation packs;
- calculates draft income, expense and operating totals;
- shows MTD deadlines and landlord-law information from official sources;
- provides a self-service account, order and invoice workflow.
What it does not do today
M.T.D.O. is not HMRC-recognised software. It does not connect to HMRC, send quarterly updates or submit a tax return. Customers must use recognised compatible software—or an adviser using such software—to complete their filing obligations.
It is also not a firm of accountants, tax advisers or solicitors. Its calculators and guidance are operational tools, not advice tailored to an individual case.
Development path
The intended filing route is a transparent connection or hand-off to recognised compatible software. No integration date is promised, and no filing capability will be advertised as live until it has been approved and tested.
